Name Our Screech Owl Contest

This feisty Screech Owl came to Horizon Wings from Coventry, Connecticut, as a young bird in the summer of 2011. He was just old enough to start flying when he was found in a yard underneath a pine tree. He was weak and scared, and upon closer examination appeared to have an eye injury. The homeowner thought he had been caught by one of the many cats in the neighborhood. We brought him to a local veterinarian and, despite medical treatment, he lost sight in his injured eye. Due to this permanent injury, the veterinarian felt this bird could not be released into the wild, so he now has a permanent home at Horizon Wings, joining our red Eastern Screech Owl, named Herkimer, as our newest ambassador. Herkimer is named after a clear crystal quartz diamond found only in New York State. We are hoping to find a matching name for our newest gem of an ambassador.
